Getting There

Walking
If you are in the center of Montauk, start at the Montauk Train Station. Head northeast on Station Rd toward Edgemere St. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with Main St (NY-27). Cross the street and continue on Main St. After a few blocks, you will reach the Montauk Library. From there, take a left onto S. Elmwood Ave. Follow this road until it merges into E. Lake Dr. Continue along E. Lake Dr, which will take you along the coast. Eventually, E. Lake Dr will turn into Montauk Point State Pkwy. Keep following this road. Hither Woods Preserve will be on your left side, near the end of the parkway. Look for the entrance signs to the preserve.

Biking
Start at the Montauk Train Station and rent a bike from one of the local shops. Head northeast on Station Rd, then take a right onto Main St (NY-27) heading southeast. Continue cycling on Main St until you reach the Montauk Library. From there, turn left onto S. Elmwood Ave, which will merge into E. Lake Dr. Follow E. Lake Dr along the coastline, then continue onto Montauk Point State Pkwy. Hither Woods Preserve will be on your left side. The ride is approximately 3 miles and offers beautiful views of the area.

Public Transportation
From the Montauk Train Station, take the Suffolk County Transit bus route S92 towards East Hampton. Get off at the stop on Montauk Point State Parkway. Once you get off the bus, walk back a short distance until you see the entrance to Hither Woods Preserve on your left. The bus service may be limited, so check the schedule beforehand.
