    From Poughkeepsie, take the Dutchess County Public Transit bus route 6 towards Kingston. The bus will take you along Route 9 and will make a stop at the intersection with NY-28. Once you get off at the stop, walk east along NY-28 for about half a mile until you reach the Ashokan Rail Trail - Woodstock Dike Trailhead at 1285 NY-28.

  • Train and Bus

    Take the Metro-North train from Poughkeepsie Station heading towards Grand Central Terminal. Get off at the Rhinecliff-Kingston Station. From there, catch the Ulster County Area Transit (UCAT) bus route 2 towards Kingston. Once you reach the Kingston Plaza, transfer to the UCAT bus route 3 towards the Town of Ulster. Get off at the stop nearest to NY-28, then walk east along NY-28 for about 0.6 miles to reach the Ashokan Rail Trail - Woodstock Dike Trailhead.

  • Bicycle

    If you're feeling adventurous and have access to a bicycle, you can ride from Poughkeepsie to the Ashokan Rail Trail. Start on the Walkway Over the Hudson, heading west. Once you reach the end, follow local bike paths towards Route 9W. From there, take the bike-friendly roads to connect with NY-28. The distance is approximately 12 miles, and the ride will take you through scenic areas.

    If you are up for a long walk, you can start from the center of Poughkeepsie. Head south on Main Street until you reach the intersection with Route 9. Follow Route 9 south until you arrive at the intersection with NY-28. Turn left onto NY-28 and continue walking for about 6 miles to reach the Ashokan Rail Trail - Woodstock Dike Trailhead. This option requires good walking shoes and plenty of water.
