If you are driving, head towards the Abel Tasman National Park area. From Nelson, take State Highway 60 towards Takaka. When you reach Takaka, follow the signs to Abel Tasman National Park. The main access points for the Abel Tasman Coast Track are at Marahau and Kaiteriteri. Make sure to park at the designated car parks, as parking fees may apply (approximately NZD 10-15 per day). From the Marahau car park, you can access the Coast Track easily.

To reach Abel Tasman Coast Track via public transportation, start by taking a bus from Nelson to Kaiteriteri. The bus service, operated by Nelson Coachlines, runs several times a day. Once you arrive in Kaiteriteri, you can walk to the beach area where the Coast Track begins. Alternatively, you can take a water taxi from Kaiteriteri that will drop you off at various points along the track. Be sure to check the water taxi schedules and book in advance as they can fill up quickly, especially during peak season. The cost for the bus is approximately NZD 30 one way, while water taxi fares vary based on the drop-off point.
