Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Motueka, which is the nearest town to Abel Tasman National Park. Head west on High Street toward Whakarewa Street. Continue onto State Highway 60 (SH60) for approximately 16 km until you reach the intersection with Riwaka-Sandy Bay Road. Turn right onto Riwaka-Sandy Bay Road and follow it until you reach the end of the road. From there, take the left onto Motueka River West Bank Road. The Blue Gum Swimming Hole will be along this road. Look for parking areas along the riverbank as it can be popular, especially in summer.

Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, take the bus from Nelson to Motueka (check local schedules for precise times). Once in Motueka, you will need to catch a local shuttle service that operates to Abel Tasman National Park. Confirm with the shuttle service about stops along Motueka River West Bank Road as some might drop you near the swimming hole. After disembarking, walk towards Motueka River West Bank Road, and head south along the road until you reach the Blue Gum Swimming Hole. Ensure you check the shuttle return times to avoid being stranded.

For the more adventurous, if you are already in Abel Tasman National Park, you can hike to the Blue Gum Swimming Hole. Start from the Abel Tasman Coastal Track, and take the side trails that lead toward the Motueka River. The trails are well-marked, but ensure you have a map or GPS on hand. Follow the trails until you reach the Motueka River West Bank Road, then head south along the road to find the swimming hole. Always check the weather and trail conditions before you set out, and consider carrying a picnic to enjoy by the water.
