If you're driving from New Plymouth, take State Highway 3 south towards the town of Inglewood. Continue on State Highway 3 until you reach the junction with State Highway 45. Turn left onto State Highway 45 and follow the signs for Egmont National Park. After approximately 24 km, keep an eye out for the Dawson Falls Road turnoff on your right. Follow Dawson Falls Road for about 5 km until you reach the Dawson Falls car park. This route will take about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic.
