Walking
From the New Plymouth city center, head towards the coast. Start at the New Plymouth i-SITE Visitor Centre located at 50 Devon Street East. Walk west along Devon Street until you reach the intersection with the Coastal Walkway. Turn left onto the Coastal Walkway and follow the path along the coast. Continue on the walkway for approximately 2.5 kilometers until you reach Fitzroy Beach Reserve. Look for the signs directing you to Waiwhakaiho Beach Reserve, which is located at the western end of Fitzroy Beach.

From the New Plymouth city center, walk to the nearest bus stop. Take the No. 2 bus towards Fitzroy, which you can catch from stops along Devon Street. Inform the driver that you want to get off at Fitzroy Beach. Once you arrive, walk towards the beach area, and follow the path to the west end of Fitzroy Beach Reserve to reach Waiwhakaiho Beach Reserve. Check the latest bus schedules for exact timings.
