Start at the Paihia Wharf, which is a central point in Paihia. Head south along the waterfront path, enjoying the scenic views of the bay. Continue walking until you reach the end of the path, which will lead you to the intersection with Williams Road. Turn left onto Williams Road and follow it until you reach the Russell ferry terminal.

At the Russell ferry terminal, purchase a ticket for the ferry to Russell. The ferry ride takes approximately 15 minutes and offers beautiful views of the Bay of Islands. Once you arrive at Russell, disembark and head towards the main street.

After exiting the ferry, walk straight down the main street (York Street). Continue until you reach the intersection with Church Street, where you will turn left. Follow Church Street until you reach the end, which will lead you to Matauwhi Bay Recreation Reserve. The entrance to the reserve is marked, and you can enjoy the natural surroundings once you arrive.
