Getting There

    Start at the Paihia Wharf, which is a central point in Paihia. From the Wharf, head southeast along the waterfront path towards the beach. Continue walking along the beach until you reach the end of the sand. Look for a trail that leads up into the bush; this is the beginning of the path to Housty's Hole. Follow the trail as it winds through the native bush. Be aware that the trail can be steep and may require careful navigation. After about 15-20 minutes of walking, you will reach a viewpoint overlooking the bay. From here, keep following the path down towards the water. The final stretch will lead you to Housty's Hole, which is located at Q449+W2, Russell, a beautiful natural swimming hole surrounded by cliffs.

    From Paihia, take the passenger ferry to Russell. The ferry terminal in Paihia is located at the waterfront. Once you arrive in Russell, disembark and head towards the main street. Follow the main street (York Street) until you reach the end, then turn left onto Okiato Road. Continue on Okiato Road until you see a sign for the walking trail to Housty's Hole. Follow the trail through the bush, which will take approximately 30 minutes. Be cautious as the path may be uneven, but it will lead you directly to Housty's Hole at Q449+W2, Russell.
