Getting There

Car
If you're starting from Invercargill, take State Highway 1 (SH1) heading north. After about 30 km, take the exit onto State Highway 6 (SH6) towards Te Anau. Follow SH6 for approximately 180 km. You will pass through several small towns, so make sure to refuel and grab supplies as needed. Once you reach Te Anau, you can begin your journey on the Southern Scenic Route. The route is well-signposted, and you can follow the signs for the Southern Scenic Route to explore the beautiful landscapes along the way.

From Invercargill, you can take a bus service to Te Anau, which is operated by InterCity. The journey takes about 2.5 hours. Ensure you check the bus schedule in advance, as services may vary. Once you arrive in Te Anau, you will need to rent a car or join a guided tour to fully experience the Southern Scenic Route, as public transport options along the route are limited.
