If you are driving from Dunedin, head northeast on State Highway 1 (SH1) for about 40 kilometers until you reach the town of Palmerston. From Palmerston, turn onto SH85, heading towards Oamaru. Continue on SH85 for about 30 kilometers, then turn onto McNeil Road at Circle Hill. Follow McNeil Road, which will lead you directly to the Whale Fossil Lookout. Parking is available near the lookout.
