Getting There

• Walking

  If you are in the central area of Wanaka, start at the Wanaka i-SITE Visitor Information Centre located at 103 Ardmore Street. From there, head south on Ardmore Street towards the lake. When you reach the lakefront, turn left onto the lakefront path. Continue walking along the path until you reach the end of the lake, which is approximately a 10-minute walk. Once you arrive at the end of the lake, you will see a footpath leading up to the Wānaka War Memorial, situated at 11 Upton Street, which offers stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains.

• Biking

  If you prefer to bike, you can rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Wanaka, such as 'Wanaka Bike Tours and Rentals' located at 11 Dunmore Street. Once you have your bike, head towards the lakefront along Ardmore Street. Follow the same path as the walking instructions, biking along the lakefront path. The ride will take about 5-10 minutes. After reaching the end of the lake, look for the path leading up to the Wānaka War Memorial at 11 Upton Street.

• Public Transport

  Currently, there are limited public transport options in Wanaka. However, you can check local shuttle services that may be available. If you are staying in a nearby accommodation, inquire at the front desk for any shuttle services that can take you to Upton Street. If not, walking or biking are the most feasible options to reach the Wānaka War Memorial.
