  To reach the James K Polk Birthplace (DAR Historical Marker) from downtown Charlotte, start by taking the LYNX Blue Line light rail from the 'Trade Street' station. Board the train heading towards 'I-485/South Blvd'. Stay on the train for approximately 25 minutes, until you reach the 'Pineville' station. Once you arrive at the Pineville station, exit the train and head south on Johnson Road. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Lancaster Highway. Turn left onto Lancaster Highway and walk approximately 0.5 miles. The James K Polk Birthplace will be on your right at 12031 Lancaster Hwy, Pineville, NC 28134.

  If you are starting from the Pineville town center, you can easily walk to the James K Polk Birthplace. Begin at the Pineville Park located at 1000 Johnston Dr. Head south on Johnston Dr towards Pineville-Matthews Rd. Turn right onto Pineville-Matthews Rd and walk for about 0.2 miles until you reach Lancaster Hwy. Turn left onto Lancaster Hwy and continue walking for another 0.4 miles. The historical marker will be on your right at 12031 Lancaster Hwy, Pineville, NC 28134.

  For those wishing to bike to the James K Polk Birthplace, start from downtown Charlotte. Use the bike lanes available on Trade Street to navigate towards the LYNX Blue Line light rail station. Once you arrive at the Pineville station, bike south on Johnson Road, which has a wide shoulder for cyclists. After about 0.5 miles, turn left onto Lancaster Highway and continue biking for an additional 0.5 miles. The historical marker will be on your right at 12031 Lancaster Hwy, Pineville, NC 28134.
