Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car from Gatlinburg, TN, start by heading southwest on US-441 S. Continue on US-441 S for about 6 miles. As you approach Cherokee, NC, take the exit toward the Eastern Cherokee Reservation. Follow signs for Mingo Falls, which will lead you to the parking area located off Mingo Falls Road. The parking area is small and can fill up quickly, so arrive early if possible. From the parking lot, the trailhead to Mingo Falls is a short walk.

• Public Transportation

  If you are using public transportation, take a bus from Asheville or Gatlinburg to Cherokee. The Cherokee Transit provides local bus services that can take you to the vicinity of Mingo Falls. Once you arrive in Cherokee, you can either walk or take a taxi to the Mingo Falls trailhead. The local taxi service can be contacted at (828) 497-7000. • Walking

  If you have parked at the Mingo Falls parking area, you'll need to walk a short, well-marked trail to reach the falls. The hike is approximately 0.3 miles one way and is rated as moderately strenuous due to some elevation gain. The trail is well-maintained but can be rocky in places, so wear sturdy shoes. Along the way, enjoy the lush scenery and listen for the sound of the waterfall growing louder as you approach.
