Getting There

    If you are driving, start by heading to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. From the center of Gatlinburg, take US-441 N (also known as the Parkway) and continue for about 2.5 miles until you see the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on your left. Once you enter the park, continue on the main road until you reach the Alum Cave Trailhead parking area. The parking lot is located on the left side of the road, just past the trailhead sign. Note that there is a parking fee of $30 for a 7-day pass, which you can pay at the entrance station.

  • Hiking

    After parking, you will need to hike to Arch Rock. The Arch Rock is located 1.4 miles into the Alum Cave Trail. From the parking lot, follow the Alum Cave Trail, which is well-marked and starts near the trailhead sign. The trail is moderately strenuous, so wear appropriate hiking shoes and carry plenty of water. The hike will take approximately 1-1.5 hours to reach Arch Rock. Look out for the iconic arch formation as you ascend; it will be on your left side along the trail.

  • Public Transportation

    If you prefer public transportation, you can take the Gatlinburg Trolley, which stops at various locations in Gatlinburg. Board the trolley that heads to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The stop for the Alum Cave Trail is approximately 2.5 miles from the center of Gatlinburg. Once you arrive at the trailhead, you will still need to hike the 1.4 miles to Arch Rock. The trolley fare is about $2 per ride.
