Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving to Crater Lake National Park, you can access the park from several highways. The most common route is to take Route 62 (Crater Lake Highway) from Medford or Route 97 from Klamath Falls. From Medford, take I-5 South to Exit 30 for Route 62. Follow Route 62 for approximately 60 miles, passing through scenic landscapes and into the park. If coming from Klamath Falls, take Route 97 North to Route 62 and follow the signs to Crater Lake. Once you reach the park entrance, be prepared to pay the entrance fee of $30 per vehicle, which is valid for seven days.

• Public Transportation

  Public transportation options to Crater Lake are limited. You can take a Greyhound bus to either Medford or Klamath Falls. From Medford, you can take a shuttle service, such as the Crater Lake Shuttle, which operates during the summer months and will take you directly to the park. For Klamath Falls, you may need to arrange a taxi or rideshare service to reach the park, as direct shuttles may not be available. Be sure to check the schedules ahead of time and book your shuttle in advance, as they can fill up quickly during peak season.

• Biking

  For the more adventurous, biking is an option once you are within a reasonable distance from the park. You can bike along Route 62, which offers scenic views and a challenging ride. However, ensure you are well prepared with water, snacks, and safety gear. Remember that biking within the park requires adherence to park regulations, and you'll still need to pay the entrance fee.

• Hiking

  If you are nearby and looking for a more immersive experience, consider hiking to Crater Lake. There are several trails leading into the park, such as the Pacific Crest Trail, which connects to the park's East Rim. Make sure to check trail conditions and park regulations before heading out. This option is only recommended for experienced hikers as the terrain can be challenging and remote.
