Getting There

Car

From Leh, take the NH 1 towards Kargil. After approximately 200 km, you will reach Kargil. From Kargil, continue on the NH 1 towards Skardu. The road to Skardu is scenic but can be challenging due to its mountainous terrain. Make sure to check road conditions before you start your journey. The distance from Kargil to Skardu is about 150 km and will take approximately 4-5 hours. Once you reach Skardu, you can hire a local guide or join a trekking group to arrange the trek to K2 Base Camp.
Bus

Buses from Leh to Skardu are available, but they may not run daily. Check the local bus schedule in advance. The journey takes about 12-15 hours and is a popular option among backpackers. Once in Skardu, head to Hussaini Chowk, where you will find local trekking companies that can arrange your trek to K2 Base Camp.
Trekking

From Skardu, prepare for the trek to K2 Base Camp. First, you will need to reach Askole, which is the starting point of the trek. You can hire a jeep from Skardu to Askole, which is about 35 km away and takes around 3-4 hours. The cost for the jeep ride is approximately PKR 3000-5000. Once in Askole, you will trek for around 8-10 days (approximately 70 km) to reach K2 Base Camp, following the Baltoro Glacier. Ensure you are well-equipped and have a guide for safety.
