Car
If you are driving to Kabul Gali, start from Leh, the capital of Ladakh. Take the NH 1D highway and head towards Kargil. After approximately 100 km, you will reach the town of Kargil. From Kargil, continue on the same highway towards Dras. After about 60 km, you will arrive in Dras. From Dras, continue on the NH 1D for another 40 km until you reach the turn-off for Kabul Gali. The road to Kabul Gali is a local access road, so keep an eye out for signs. The coordinates for Kabul Gali are approximately 34.4714° N, 75.3447° E. The total drive from Leh to Kabul Gali will take around 5-6 hours, depending on road conditions. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition due to the high-altitude terrain.
Public Transportation (Bus)
To reach Kabul Gali via public transportation, take a bus from Leh to Kargil. Buses leave regularly from the Leh bus station and the journey takes around 6-7 hours. Once you arrive in Kargil, you will need to hire a local taxi to take you to Kabul Gali. Local taxis are available outside the Kargil bus terminal, and the ride to Kabul Gali will take about 1.5-2 hours. Be sure to negotiate the fare before starting your journey. The total cost for the bus from Leh to Kargil is around ₹500-₹700, and the taxi fare to Kabul Gali will typically be around ₹1500-₹2000.
Shared Taxi
An alternative to public buses is to take a shared taxi or 'Sumo' from Leh to Kargil. Shared taxis can be found at the Leh taxi stand. The journey will take approximately 6 hours, and the fare is usually around ₹800-₹1000 per person. Once in Kargil, you will still need to arrange a local taxi to reach Kabul Gali, which will cost about ₹1500-₹2000. This option may be faster than the bus, as shared taxis typically leave when full.
