Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving to Choquequirao Archaeological Park, start from Cusco, the main city in the Andean Highlands. Take the road towards Abancay (approximately 3.5 hours). From Abancay, continue towards the town of Cachora (about 1 hour). It's advisable to stop for fuel and supplies in Abancay. Once in Cachora, you can park your car at the local parking area (a small fee may apply, typically around 10-20 soles). The trek to Choquequirao begins here, spanning approximately 20 kilometers and taking about 4-6 hours to hike down.

• Public Transportation (Bus)

  To reach Choquequirao using public transportation, take a bus from Cusco to Abancay, which takes around 3 to 4 hours. Buses depart regularly from the main bus terminal in Cusco (Cruz del Sur and other companies). The cost is typically around 30-50 soles. Upon arrival in Abancay, transfer to a smaller bus or shared taxi heading to Cachora, which takes about 1 hour (cost approximately 10-15 soles). In Cachora, you will need to walk or hire a local guide for the trek to Choquequirao, which is about 20 kilometers and takes 4-6 hours.

• Trekking

  The final leg to Choquequirao involves a hike from Cachora. The trek is steep and can be challenging, so ensure you are well-prepared with sufficient water, snacks, and proper hiking gear. The trail leads through scenic valleys and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. It’s recommended to hire a local guide for safety and to enhance your experience. Guides can also assist you with camping arrangements if you plan to stay overnight at Choquequirao. The entrance fee to the archaeological site is approximately 60 soles per person.
