Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the city of Cusco, which is about 100 kilometers from Upis qocha. Drive south on the highway towards Ocongate. Once you reach Ocongate, continue towards the village of Tinki. From Tinki, follow the signs leading to the Ausangate Trek trailhead. You will need to pay a small entrance fee to access the trekking area, which is typically around 10 to 20 soles per person. After reaching the trailhead, follow the designated trekking path for about 3-4 hours until you arrive at Upis qocha, which is marked on the trail.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, catch a bus or colectivo from Cusco to Ocongate. The bus ride typically costs around 15 to 30 soles and takes about 3 hours. Upon arriving in Ocongate, you will need to find another colectivo heading towards Tinki, which costs about 10 soles and takes roughly 30 minutes. Once in Tinki, you can either hike to the trailhead or hire a local guide or mule to assist you with transport. The trail from Tinki to Upis qocha will take approximately 3-4 hours, and be sure to carry some cash for any entrance fees to the trekking area.
