Walking
Start your journey from the central plaza of Huaraz, Plaza de Armas. Head east on Avenida Luzuriaga until you reach the intersection with Avenida 28 de Julio. Turn left onto Avenida 28 de Julio and continue straight for about 1 kilometer until you reach the roundabout. At the roundabout, take the first exit onto Avenida Progreso. Continue on Avenida Progreso for about 2 kilometers. You will eventually see signs for Mirador de Rataquenua. Follow the signs as the road turns into a dirt path leading uphill. The path may be steep and rocky, so wear good walking shoes. After about 30 minutes of walking, you will arrive at Mirador de Rataquenua, where you can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

Public Transport
From Plaza de Armas in Huaraz, walk to the nearby bus terminal located on Avenida 28 de Julio. Look for a bus or shared taxi heading towards the town of Pitec. Once on the bus, inform the driver that you are going to Mirador de Rataquenua. The ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Get off at the designated stop for Mirador de Rataquenua. From there, you will need to walk the last part of the trek, which is a steep uphill path leading to the viewpoint. The walk from the bus stop to the mirador will take around 20 minutes, and it's recommended to wear comfortable shoes.

For a more adventurous option, consider starting your hike from the outskirts of Huaraz. Begin at the base of the mountains along the trail that leads to Mirador de Rataquenua. You can access the trail from the area near the cemetery in Huaraz. Follow the well-marked trail that ascends steadily. The hike will take about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your fitness level. Make sure to carry water and snacks, as there are no facilities on the way. The trail offers beautiful views of the valley, making it a rewarding experience.
