Car
If you're traveling by car, start your journey from Cusco. Take the main road towards Mollepata. Follow the signs for Salkantay Trek. The drive takes approximately 2-3 hours. Once you reach Mollepata, you can park your car at designated parking areas. From there, you will need to either hire a local taxi or a shuttle bus to the starting point of the trek at Soraypampa, which is about an additional hour away.
Public Transportation
To reach the Salkantay Trek via public transportation, head to the main bus terminal in Cusco. Look for buses heading to Mollepata. The bus ride usually takes around 2-3 hours and costs about 10-15 soles. Once you arrive in Mollepata, you can take a local taxi or a shuttle to Soraypampa, the starting point of the trek. The taxi ride will cost around 30-50 soles and takes about an hour.
Hiking
If you're already in the Salkantay Trail area, you can start your trek from Soraypampa. Make sure to follow the marked trails and carry a map or GPS device. The trek is well-signposted, but it's advisable to join a guided group if you're unfamiliar with the area. Ensure you have enough supplies, and be prepared for altitude changes.
