History of Szwederowo

A Settlement South of the Historic City

Szwederowo developed on elevated ground south of Bydgoszcz’s historic centre, in an area once treated as a separate settlement and then gradually drawn into the city’s expanding urban landscape. The name is commonly linked with Swedish troops who camped on the heights during the seventeenth-century Swedish invasion, although the precise early history of the place-name is discussed in local historical accounts.
