History of East Greenwich

Indigenous Lands and Colonial Foundation

The area now called East Greenwich formed part of the homeland of Indigenous peoples of southern New England, including the Narragansett, whose communities and regional networks predated English settlement. English colonists established East Greenwich in 1677, naming it after Greenwich in England.
