Getting There

  • Bus

    To reach Fort Adams State Park from East Greenwich, start by walking to the nearest bus stop along Main Street. You can catch the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) Bus 14, which travels towards Newport. Make sure to check the bus schedule for the most accurate times. Stay on the bus until you reach the Newport Gateway Center. Once you arrive, disembark and transfer to Bus 67, which travels to Fort Adams. Get off at the stop closest to Fort Adams State Park. You will then have a short walk of about 0.3 miles to reach the park entrance at 80 Fort Adams Dr.

  • Bicycle

    If you prefer to cycle, you can rent a bike from a local rental shop in East Greenwich. Start your journey by heading south on Main Street, then take a left onto Frenchtown Road. Continue on Frenchtown Road until you reach the junction with Route 1. Carefully navigate onto Route 1 and follow the bike lanes heading towards Newport. Once in Newport, follow the signs leading to Fort Adams State Park. The ride is approximately 10 miles and will take around 45 minutes to an hour, depending on your pace.

  • Walking

    For those who enjoy a longer walk, you can start your journey on foot from East Greenwich. Head south on Main Street and continue to follow it as it turns into South County Trail (Route 1). Walk along South County Trail until you reach the entrance of the East Bay Bike Path. Follow the path heading towards Newport. The path will take you through scenic areas along the waterfront. Continue on the bike path until you reach the Newport area, where you can follow the signs to Fort Adams State Park. This walk is approximately 8 miles and may take around 2-3 hours depending on your walking speed.
