The Breakers: A Glimpse into Newport's Gilded Age

Getting There

• Walking

  Start at the center of Westerly, at the intersection of High Street and Main Street. Walk east on High Street until you reach the intersection with Railroad Avenue. Turn left onto Railroad Avenue and continue until you reach the Westerly Train Station. From there, you can take the Rhode Island public transit bus (RIPTA) heading towards Newport. Get off at the Newport Gateway Center. Once at the Gateway Center, transfer to the local bus service or a rideshare to reach your final destination.

• Public Transit

  From the center of Westerly, take a RIPTA bus from the nearest stop, heading towards Newport. The bus will take you through scenic Rhode Island until you reach Newport Gateway Center. Once there, you can either take a taxi, rideshare, or a local bus (such as Route 67) towards Ochre Point Avenue. Make sure to inform the driver you are going to The Breakers, and get off at the nearest stop. From there, it’s a short walk (about 5-10 minutes) to The Breakers located at 44 Ochre Point Ave.

• Biking

  If you're feeling adventurous and have access to a bike, you can start from downtown Westerly and bike towards Newport. Take a scenic route along the coast through Route 1, and enjoy the beautiful views. Once you arrive in Newport, follow signs towards Ochre Point Avenue. The Breakers is located at 44 Ochre Point Ave, which is accessible by bike with bike lanes available in some sections.
