Getting There

  • Bicycle

    From Karongi town center, head southeast on Avenue de la Révolution towards the main road (RN 1). Follow the road for approximately 15 km, passing through scenic views of Lake Kivu. When you reach the junction with the road leading to Nyungwe Forest, turn left onto the road marked for Nyungwe. Continue straight for another 10 km until you reach the park entrance.

  • Walking

    If you're up for a hiking adventure, from the center of Karongi, follow the trail south along the lakeshore. After about 2 km, you will intersect with the main road (RN 1). Head east on RN 1 for about 15 km. Look for signs directing you to Nyungwe Forest; turn left at the junction. The park entrance is another 10 km ahead. Note this is a long walk, so ensure you have plenty of water and snacks.

  • Public Transport (Moto-taxi)

    In Karongi, find a moto-taxi (motorcycle taxi). Inform the driver you want to go to Nyungwe Forest National Park. The ride will take approximately 30 minutes. The driver will take you directly to the park entrance. It's advisable to agree on the fare before starting the trip.
