You can follow the main road along the lake, which is lined with local shops and eateries. Once at the boat landing, inquire about boat trips to Napoléon Island. There are often local fishermen or tour operators who can take you on a boat ride. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes depending on the weather and water conditions. Enjoy the scenic views of the lake and surrounding hills during your ride.

If you wish to explore Kibuye before heading to Napoléon Island, you can walk along the lakeside promenade. Start from the Kibuye Genocide Memorial, which is a notable landmark. From there, walk south towards the boat landing. This route offers beautiful views of Lake Kivu and is around 1.5 kilometers long. It should take you approximately 20-30 minutes on foot. Once you reach the boat landing, you can arrange a boat ride to Napoléon Island as mentioned previously.
