Yishun, formerly known as Nee Soon, derives its name from Lim Nee Soon, a prominent businessman in the early 20th century who played a significant role in the rubber and pineapple industries in Singapore. The area was primarily agricultural, with vast plantations and small villages dotting the landscape.
