From Mount Rushmore, head to the nearest bus stop on SD-244. Take the public bus route towards Rapid City. You will need to ride the bus until you reach the Rapid City Transit Center. Once at the Transit Center, transfer to the bus route that heads towards the Cosmos Mystery Area. The total travel time is approximately 1 hour.

Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle from a local rental shop in Mount Rushmore. Head east on SD-244 until you reach the junction with US-16. Turn right and follow US-16 north towards Rapid City. After about 5 miles, turn left onto Cosmos Road. The Cosmos Mystery Area will be on your right after about 2 miles. The entire route is approximately 7 miles, so ensure you are prepared for a decent ride.

For the adventurous, you can walk to the Cosmos Mystery Area. Start by heading east on SD-244 from Mount Rushmore for about 1.5 miles until you reach the junction with US-16. Turn right onto US-16 and continue walking north for about 5 miles. After reaching Rapid City, turn left onto Cosmos Road and walk for another 2 miles. The Cosmos Mystery Area will be on your right. This is a long walk, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water.
