Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from the Anuradhapura city center, head towards the main road, Saradiel Mawatha. Walk straight until you reach the junction with the A9 highway. Cross the highway carefully and continue on the path that leads towards Mihintale. After about 1.5 kilometers, you will see signs directing you to Mihintale. Follow these signs as they will lead you towards the entrance of Mihintale. Once you reach the entrance, continue walking up the steps leading to the temple area, which is approximately another 1 kilometer uphill. Look for the temple structures as you ascend.

  • Bicycle Rental

    Rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Anuradhapura. Start by cycling on Saradiel Mawatha, heading towards the A9 highway. Once you reach the highway, turn right and cycle along the road towards Mihintale. It's a flat route for most of the way, and after about 1.5 kilometers, you will see signs for Mihintale. Follow these signs, which will lead you to the entrance of the temple complex. Once you arrive, you can park your bicycle and continue on foot to explore the temple area.

  • Tuk-Tuk

    To reach the Temple from Anuradhapura, you can hire a tuk-tuk from any location in the city. Inform the driver that you want to go to Mihintale Temple. The ride will take approximately 30 minutes. The tuk-tuk will drop you off at the entrance of the Mihintale temple complex. From there, you will need to walk up the steps leading to the temple, which is about a kilometer uphill. The driver can also provide assistance in locating the best entrance.
