Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Anuradhapura, start at the Anuradhapura Railway Station. Exit the station and head southeast on Station Road. Continue straight for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the intersection with Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi Road. Turn left onto Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi Road and walk for approximately 1 kilometer until you reach the entrance of the sacred Bodhi Tree. After visiting the Bodhi Tree, continue on Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi Road, which will lead you towards Mihintale. Follow the road as it curves, and you will see signs directing you to Mihindu Pagoda. The total walking distance is around 4 kilometers.

  • Public Transport (Bus)

    From Anuradhapura, walk to the main bus station located near the center of town. Look for buses heading to Mihintale, which are frequent and cost-effective. The bus ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the Mihintale bus station, exit and follow the signs towards Mihindu Pagoda. The pagoda is approximately a 1.5-kilometer walk from the bus station, so be prepared for a short hike uphill to reach the pagoda.

  • Cycle

    If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle from one of the rental shops in Anuradhapura. Start from the city center and head towards Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi Road. Continue along the same route as mentioned for walking, but on a bicycle. The ride will take approximately 20-25 minutes, and it's a scenic route. Once you reach the Mihintale area, you can park your bicycle and walk the remaining distance to Mihindu Pagoda.
