Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, start from the main entrance of Horton Plains National Park. Follow the main road that leads through the park. Continue driving until you reach the junction for Ambewela. Take a left turn at the junction and follow the road for about 2 kilometers. The road will lead you to the Ambewela Reservoir area. Look for signs directing you to 'Black Pool.' There is limited parking available near the reservoir.

  • Public Transportation

    If you are using public transportation, you will need to first take a bus or a tuk-tuk from Nuwara Eliya to Horton Plains National Park. Once you arrive at the park entrance, you can either walk or hire a local guide. The walk to Ambewela Reservoir takes approximately 30-40 minutes from the entrance. Follow the main trail, and when you see signs for 'Black Pool,' take a left. Please note that entrance fees for Horton Plains apply, which is around 3,000 LKR for foreign tourists.

  • Walking

    For those already inside Horton Plains National Park, from the main visitor center, follow the main walking trail. Walk about 3 kilometers until you reach the fork in the path. Take the left path towards 'Black Pool.' The trail is well-marked, and you will enjoy scenic views along the way. The walk will take you approximately 1 hour, depending on your pace.
