Getting There

  • Car

    From Horton Plains National Park, take the main road out towards Nuwara Eliya. Drive approximately 10 kilometers until you reach Ranhawadigama Road. Turn left onto Ranhawadigama Road. Continue on this road for about 5 kilometers, following the signs for Moon Plains. You will see a parking area where you can leave your car. There may be a small parking fee.

  • Public Transportation

    From Horton Plains, you can take a local bus heading towards Nuwara Eliya. The buses are frequent and affordable, costing around 50 LKR per person. Ask the bus driver to drop you off at Ranhawadigama Road. From the bus stop, it is approximately a 15-minute walk to Moon Plains. Follow Ranhawadigama Road until you see the signs for Moon Plains. Be aware that the last bus back to Horton Plains may leave early in the evening.

  • Taxi

    If you prefer a more comfortable option, consider hiring a taxi from Horton Plains. You can negotiate a fare with a local driver, which should range from 1500 to 2500 LKR for a round trip. The taxi will take you directly to the Moon Plains entrance, making it convenient especially if you are traveling in a group.
