Car
If you are driving from Kandy city center, get on the A26 road (also known as the Kandy-Mahiyangana road) heading southeast. Continue on A26 for approximately 3.5 kilometers until you reach the fork in the road. Take the left fork to stay on A26 towards Mahiyangana. After about 5 kilometers, look for signs directing you to Kataragama Devalaya and turn left onto Sri Skanda Kumara Devala Lane. The Devalaya will be on your right after about 1 kilometer. Parking is usually available nearby, but be prepared for a small fee (around 100-200 LKR).
Public Bus
From Kandy, you can take a public bus from the Kandy Bus Stand towards Mahiyangana or a direct bus to Kataragama. Buses leave frequently, so you should not have to wait long. The fare is approximately 50-100 LKR. Inform the conductor that you are heading to Kataragama Devalaya. The bus will drop you off near the entrance to the temple. From there, it’s about a 5-minute walk to the Devalaya.
Tuk-Tuk
For a more personalized experience, you can hire a tuk-tuk from anywhere in Kandy. Negotiate the fare beforehand; it should range between 500-1000 LKR depending on your starting point and time of day. The tuk-tuk will take you directly to Kataragama Devalaya, which is especially convenient if you're traveling with luggage or in a group.
