If you are driving, start from Kilinochchi town and take the A9 highway heading towards Jaffna. After approximately 25 kilometers, you'll reach the junction for Pooneryn. Turn left onto the B94 road and continue straight for about 15 kilometers. You will see signs directing you towards the Ruins of Poonakary Fort. The fort is located at G636+8RP, Pooneryn. Ensure your vehicle has enough fuel and check road conditions before setting out, as some areas may be prone to flooding during the rainy season.

To reach the Ruins of Poonakary Fort using public transport, board a bus at the Kilinochchi bus station heading towards Jaffna. Make sure to ask the bus conductor to drop you off at the Pooneryn junction. After disembarking, you can take a three-wheeler (tuk-tuk) or walk approximately 15 kilometers down the B94 road to reach the fort.
