Experience Batheegama beach

Getting There

  • Walking

    Start from the Matara Railway Station. Exit the station and head south towards the Galle Road (A2). This will take you through the town center where you can find shops and eateries along the way. Once you reach Galle Road, turn left (east) and continue walking along the road. After approximately 2 kilometers, you will see a sign for Batheegama. Take the road leading towards Batheegama and continue walking straight. The beach will be located at the end of this road.

  • Tuk-tuk

    Stand outside the Matara Railway Station or any main street in Matara where tuk-tuks are available. Indicate that you would like to go to Batheegama beach. The ride should take around 15-20 minutes. Be sure to confirm the fare before starting your journey. Once you arrive, the driver can drop you off near the beach entrance.

  • Bus

    Head to the Matara Bus Station located close to the railway station. Look for buses heading towards Batheegama or Talalla. Board the bus and pay the fare, which is usually quite affordable. The bus ride should take about 30 minutes. Get off at the Batheegama stop and walk towards the beach from there. Ask the bus conductor to let you know when to get off if you're unsure.
