Getting There

  • Car

    To get to Minneriya National Park from Yala National Park by car, first head out of Yala by following the signs to Tissamaharama (also known as Tissa). Continue on the A2 highway for approximately 34 kilometers until you reach the junction where the A2 meets the A14 highway. Turn left onto the A14 highway towards Habarana. Follow the A14 for about 45 kilometers. You will pass through several small towns, so keep following the road signs as you approach Minneriya. After about 45 kilometers, you will see signs for Minneriya National Park. Follow these signs to the park entrance, which is well-marked. Note that there is an entrance fee to the park, which typically costs around 3,000 LKR for foreign nationals and 1,500 LKR for Sri Lankan citizens.

    If you prefer public transportation, you can take a bus from Yala to Habarana. First, make your way to the nearest bus station in Tissamaharama and board a bus heading to Habarana. The journey will take about 1.5 to 2 hours and costs around 100-150 LKR. Once you arrive in Habarana, you will need to take a tuk-tuk or a taxi to Minneriya National Park, which is approximately 15 kilometers away and should cost about 500-800 LKR.
