Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Walking
Start at the Mbeya bus station and head towards the main road. Walk along the main road towards the northern direction for about 1 km until you reach the junction with the Mbeya - Tunduma road. Take a left turn onto this road. Continue walking straight for approximately 5 km, enjoying the scenic views along the way. You will pass local shops and small eateries where you can grab some refreshments. After this stretch, watch for the signposts indicating the Lake Ngosi View Point. Turn right onto the dirt road that leads towards the lake. Follow this road for about 3 km, which will lead you through lush greenery and local villages until you arrive at the Lake Ngosi View Point.
Public Transport (Dala-Dala)
From the Mbeya bus station, take a Dala-Dala (shared minibus) heading towards Tunduma. Inform the conductor that you want to get off at the Lake Ngosi junction. The ride will take around 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive at the junction, you will need to walk for about 3 km along the dirt road leading to the lake. This road is surrounded by beautiful scenery and local landscapes. Be sure to take water and snacks, as the walk can be a bit strenuous.
Bicycle Rental
If you prefer a bicycle, rent one from a local shop in Mbeya. Start at the Mbeya bus station and follow the same path as the walking directions. Biking along the main road towards the Tunduma road is a great way to enjoy the outdoors. You will cover the distance faster, but be cautious of traffic. After approximately 5 km on the Tunduma road, turn right onto the dirt road leading to Lake Ngosi. It will take around 15-20 minutes to bike the final 3 km to the viewpoint.
