Travel Guide to Mae Kampong Village

Getting There

• Songthaew

  From the center of Chiang Mai, head to the Chang Phuak Bus Station (located near the North Gate of the Old City). Take a Songthaew (red truck) heading to Mae On. You can ask the driver to drop you off at Mae Kampong Village. The ride will take approximately 30-45 minutes, depending on traffic. Once you arrive at Mae On, you may need to take a local motorbike taxi for the last stretch to Mae Kampong Village, which is about 15 minutes away.

• Public Bus

  Go to the Arcade Bus Station in Chiang Mai, which is at the eastern end of the city. Look for buses heading towards Mae On. Purchase a ticket for Mae On and enjoy the scenic ride that takes roughly 1 hour. Once you arrive at Mae On, you can take a local Songthaew or a motorbike taxi to Mae Kampong Village, which is about 15 minutes away.

• Bicycle Rental

  Rent a bicycle from one of the many shops in Chiang Mai. Start your journey by heading east out of the city center towards the Hang Dong area and then follow signs towards Mae On. This route is approximately 30 kilometers and takes around 2-3 hours, depending on your speed and fitness level. Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks, as there are limited stops along the way. Once you reach Mae On, you can ask locals for directions to Mae Kampong Village, which is a short ride further up the road.

• Motorbike Rental

  If you’re comfortable riding a motorbike, rent one in Chiang Mai. Head towards the Superhighway (AH1) and take the route towards Mae On. Follow the signs for Mae Kampong Village. The ride is about 30 kilometers and takes approximately 1 hour. Be cautious on the winding roads as they can be tricky. Once you arrive in Mae On, look for signs leading to Mae Kampong Village, which is just a short ride away.
