If you're driving to Mount Elgon National Park from Elgon town, start by heading southeast on the main road towards Bugitimwa. Follow the signs for the park. The entrance is located at coordinates 1.1057833, 34.5086187, approximately 15 km from the town center. Make sure to have a map or GPS on hand, as some road signs may be limited. Be mindful of the local traffic rules and road conditions, especially during rainy seasons. There may be a small entrance fee to access the park, so have some cash ready.
Public Transportation
To reach Mount Elgon National Park via public transport, take a matatu (shared taxi) from the main bus terminal in Elgon town heading towards Bugitimwa. The fare is typically around 5,000 UGX. Inform the driver that you want to get off at the park entrance, and they'll drop you at a point close to the park. From there, you may need to walk for about 500 meters to reach the main entrance. Be prepared for some walking, as public transport may not drop you off right at the entrance.
Bicycle or Walking
