Experience Long Sands Beach

Getting There

  • Metro

    Start at any metro station in Newcastle upon Tyne. Take the Tyne and Wear Metro towards South Shields. Stay on the train for approximately 30 minutes until you reach the Tynemouth station. Upon exiting the station, follow the signs to the exit. Once you are outside, head towards the coast by walking straight down the road (Tynemouth Road) until you reach the seafront. Long Sands Beach is located to your right, just a short 5-minute walk along the promenade.

  • Bus

    Begin at the Eldon Square Bus Station in Newcastle upon Tyne. Take the Go North East bus number 1 or 1A towards South Shields. The journey will take around 40 minutes. Get off at the Tynemouth stop. From there, walk towards the coast, heading east along Front Street. Continue down to the seafront, and Long Sands Beach will be straight ahead, just a few minutes' walk along the beach path.

    If you're in the city center, you can also consider walking to Long Sands Beach. Start at Grey Street, walk down to the Quayside, then follow the River Tyne eastward towards South Shields. This is quite a long walk (approximately 10 miles), so it may take around 2-3 hours. Along the way, you can enjoy views of the river and various landmarks. Once you reach Tynemouth, head towards the seafront, and Long Sands Beach will be to your right.
