Travel Guide to Camels Hump State Park

Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start on I-89 N. Take exit 10 for US-2 E toward Montpelier. Merge onto US-2 E and continue for about 7 miles. Turn right onto VT-100 S, following signs for Waterbury. After about 3 miles, turn left onto Waterbury-Stowe Rd. Follow this road until you see signs for Camels Hump State Park, approximately 5 miles ahead. Parking is available near the trailheads, but be mindful that some areas may require a parking fee.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take a Greyhound or Megabus to Montpelier, Vermont. From Montpelier, you can catch the Green Mountain Transit bus service. Take the bus towards Waterbury and get off at the Waterbury Village stop. From there, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to Camels Hump State Park, as public transport does not go directly to the park. Expect taxi fares to be around $15-$25 depending on the distance.

• Bicycle

  If you're an adventurous cyclist, you can bike to Camels Hump State Park. Starting from Waterbury Village, take Waterbury-Stowe Rd. This route is approximately 5 miles and offers beautiful views but be prepared for some hills. Ensure you have appropriate gear and check local bike rental options if you don’t have your own.

• Hiking

  For those already in the vicinity, you can hike to Camels Hump from nearby trailheads. If you are near the Camel's Hump State Park area, take the Long Trail, which connects to several other trails leading directly to Camels Hump. The hike can take about 2-4 hours depending on your speed and trail conditions. Make sure to wear proper hiking boots and bring plenty of water.
