If you are starting from the Milwaukee Art Museum, exit the museum and head east towards Lake Michigan. Walk along the lakefront on E Wells St until you reach N Water St. Turn left (north) on N Water St and continue walking. After about 0.5 miles, you will arrive at Historical Marker 327: Sinking of the Lady Elgin, located on the right side of the street.

To get to Historical Marker 327 from downtown Milwaukee, take the Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) bus route 30 or 57. Board the bus at the nearest stop on W Wisconsin Ave heading towards the Historic Third Ward. Get off at the N Water St & E St Paul Ave stop. From there, walk north on N Water St for about 0.2 miles, and you will find Historical Marker 327: Sinking of the Lady Elgin on your right.
