Mývatn is Iceland's fourth largest lake and surrounded by various natural wonders. The area of Mývatn is characterized by volcanism, there are bizarre lava formations, craters and hot springs. Their first stop here are the pseudo-craters in Skútustagigar. These unusual geological formations were formed 2300 years ago when hot lava flowed over damp ground, then the water evaporated abruptly and hurled up the lava.

Grjotagjá, considered the home of an outlaw in the 18th century, was used as a local hot spring until the 1970s.
