The 'Welcome to Mobile, Alabama' mural, located at 714 Dauphin Street, has become an iconic representation of the city's vibrant culture and welcoming atmosphere. Facing Scott Street, this eye-catching mural offers a picturesque introduction to the heart of downtown Mobile. The mural was designed by Sarah Beth Bexley, a student at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School, as her contribution to Mobile United's Youth Leadership Mobile individual service project. In October 2021, she invited the community to participate in painting the mural, and nearly one thousand people of all ages and skill levels contributed, leaving their unique mark on this community artwork. The mural incorporates elements that reflect Mobile's unique history and character. Each letter of the mural contains cultural elements unique to Mobile, including Mardi Gras floats, Azalea Trail Maids, and local landmarks. As part of the Lower Dauphin Street Historic District (LoDa), the mural is surrounded by a wealth of historical landmarks and cultural attractions. The Lower Dauphin Street Historic District is known for its retail, dining, entertainment and nightlife. The mural is easily accessible and serves as a perfect starting point for exploring the city's many attractions, including Bienville Square, Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, and Cathedral Square.
