Lura National Park, officially known as Lurë-Dejë Mountain National Park since a 2018 expansion, encompasses over 202 square kilometers of northeastern Albania. The park is characterized by its rugged mountains, lush forests, and, most famously, its collection of twelve stunning glacial lakes. These lakes, often referred to as 'The Crown of Lura,' each possess a unique charm, with crystal-clear waters reflecting the surrounding peaks and vibrant meadows. The park's diverse ecosystems host a wide array of flora and fauna. Forests of European beech, silver fir, and various pine species provide shelter for wildlife, including the European brown bear, Eurasian lynx, and golden eagle. The 'Field of Mares,' a southern meadow, bursts with multicolored flowers and coniferous trees, offering picturesque views. Hiking trails wind through the park, catering to all skill levels, from leisurely strolls around the lakes to challenging ascents up Mount Balgjaj. These trails offer opportunities for photography, wildlife watching, and cultural encounters in nearby villages. Lura's history is intertwined with Albanian heritage, having served as a royal hunting reserve during the communist era.
