Discover more about National Park of Lura

Lura National Park, officially Lurë-Dejës Mt National Park, is a captivating destination in northeastern Albania, characterized by its rugged mountains, pristine glacial lakes, and rich biodiversity. The park spans over 202 square kilometers and is known for its twelve (or fourteen, depending on the source) glacial lakes, often referred to as the 'Crown of Lura'. These lakes, formed during the Würm glacial period, sit at elevations between 1,200 and 1,500 meters, adding to the park's alpine charm. The park's diverse landscape includes lush forests, alpine meadows, and jagged peaks, providing habitats for a variety of wildlife, including brown bears, wolves, and various bird species. The forests feature rare trees like the Balkan pine, some over 200 years old. In the springtime, the park transforms into a botanical paradise with colorful wildflowers and diverse plant life. Visitors can explore the park's natural wonders through hiking, camping, and wildlife watching. Trails cater to various skill levels, offering views of the lakes, forests, and surrounding mountains. Key attractions include the Great Lake (Liqeni i Madh), the Lake of Flowers (Liqeni i Luleve) known for its white water lilies, and the Black Lake (Liqeni i Zi). The Field of Mares, a meadow in the southern part of the park, offers scenic views with its colorful flowers and coniferous trees. While the park's remoteness offers tranquility, it also means limited facilities, so visitors should come prepared with their own gear and supplies. Despite past deforestation, ongoing efforts aim to restore the park's forests and preserve its natural beauty. Lura National Park provides an immersive experience in Albania's untouched wilderness.
