The Varri Monumental i Vendbanimit Antik të Persqopit, or the Monumental Tomb of the Ancient Settlement of Persqop, is a captivating historical site located near modern-day Tirana, Albania. This monument is part of the ancient city of Persqop, an Illyrian settlement dating back to the 4th century BC. The settlement is thought to have been inhabited by the Illyrian tribe of the Parthini. Strategically positioned 590 meters above sea level on Vila Mountain, the last peak of the Krrabë mountain range, Persqop controlled a vast territory and its roads. The fortifying walls, among the best-preserved in Albania, stretch 60 meters in length and stand 7 meters high, featuring 10 rows of stones. The walls are double-layered, with an outer wall 2 meters thick and an inner wall 1 meter thick, connected by perpendicular walls filled with soil and stones. Restoration efforts, including clearing vegetation and improving drainage, have made the site more accessible to tourists. Today, the Varri Monumental attracts history enthusiasts and those curious about Albania's archaeological treasures.
