From the village of Ransol, follow the signs towards Els Plans. The trail begins behind stone houses with red windows. Follow the path, which ascends alongside stone walls and through a forest. The hike to the Estany Gran de la Vall del Riu takes approximately 2.5 to 6 hours, depending on your pace and chosen route. There are no entrance fees or special transport tickets required to access the area.

To reach the trailhead for Illes de la Vall del Riu using public transport, take a bus to Canillo. From Canillo, take the CS 240 (Carretera de Montaup) towards Coll d'Ordino for approximately 4 km. Please note that there is no direct bus connection to the starting point of the hike from Coll d'Ordino. From there, it is recommended to proceed by foot or taxi to Els Plans, where the trail begins. Bus fares within Andorra typically cost around €2-3 for a single trip. A taxi from Canillo to Els Plans would cost approximately €15-€20.
