Discover more about Gold King Mine & Ghost Town

Step back in time at the Gold King Mine & Ghost Town, a unique attraction just a short drive from the historic town of Jerome, Arizona. What began as the Haynes Copper Company in 1890, quickly turned into a gold mine. Although the mine was not a sustainable operation, the town of Haynes was created. In the 1970's, Don Robertson rediscovered the location and began collecting and preserving relics from America's industrial revolution. Today, visitors can explore a collection of over 180 vintage cars, trucks, and motorcycles, along with mining equipment, a working sawmill, and a blacksmith shop. The 1270-foot mine shaft, though plugged for safety, remains on the property. The Gold King Mine & Ghost Town offers a variety of activities for all ages. Children can enjoy a petting zoo with goats, chickens, and other animals, while the whole family can try their luck at panning for gold. Knowledgeable staff are available to share the history of the site and its many artifacts. The Gold King Mine is open every day except Tuesdays, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
